New Library Facility for Gweedore – Cope


Pat the Cope Gallagher has been advised by Michael Finneran TD, Minister for Housing and Local Services, that funding of €600,000 has been approved for the provision of a Branch Library at Gweedore. The funding from the Library Capital Programme will be provided in 2010.


Gweedore Branch Library was flooded in over 7ft of water in June 2009. Donegal County Council are currently developing a replacement library as past of the Aislann Gaoth Dobhair industrial estate regeneration, led by Udaras na Gaeltachta. The ground floor of the building will incorporate a public library, exhibition space and a children’s area with preschool, afterschool, family / language support and other facilities. Grant aid is being provided towards the fit-out, ICT and bookstock of the library.


Pat the Cope is confident that the works should be completed and the library operational by early 2011.
