GLENTIES & DUNGLOE SEWERAGE SCHEMES TO GO TO CONSTRUCTION - COPE
Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP, has welcomed the Department of Environment’s decision to allow the Glenties and Dungloe Sewerage schemes to move to the contracting stage with a combined estimated cost of €7million. As all pre-tender documents are prepared, it is expected that tenders will be invited within a matter of months. I am hopeful that work would commence next year.
These schemes will provide new wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations and sewers in Dungloe and Glenties to replace the present overloaded and obsolete infrastructure. The new works will facilitate existing and future residential and commercial development in the Dungloe and Glenties areas. In addition, the state of the art wastewater treatment plants, which will treat the wastewater in each location to the highest standards, will ensure that the local environment is enhanced and the good quality of the Dungloe and Owenea rivers is protected and improved.
Pat the Cope also welcomed the decision to include the Gweedore Sewerage Scheme as “Contracts to Start” during the course of the current Wastewater Improvement Programme with a combined indicative value of €11million. It is now a matter for the council to progress the Gweedore Scheme towards tender stage. He also welcomed the provision of €150,000 for the Ballybofey & Stranorlar Sewerage Network.
The following schemes
Falcarragh Sewarage Scheme
Gortahork / Falcarragh Water Supply Scheme
West Donegal Regional Water Supply Scheme
are all at the planning stage and it is hope these schemes will proceed to “Contracts to start” during the course of the next programme.
Pat the Cope has thanked Minister Gormley for responding positively to his request to allow these schemes to proceed to the next stages.
