Pat the Cope welcomes 25.8 million funding for non-national roads in Donegal
Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP has welcomed funding of 25,823,931 for Donegal roads, following the announcement of the 2010 non-national road grant allocations by Noel Dempsey T.D, Minister for Transport.
This grant allocation, for improvement to the road infrastructure in Donegal, will be distributed as follows: Discretionary Maintenance 3,450,000 - Restoration Maintenance 4,059,000 - Restoration Improvement Grant 12,208,000 Low Cost Safety Grant 171,500 - with the balance of the grant going towards Specific Improvement Grants.
Pat the Cope confirms that in addition to the funding provided for Restoration Improvement and Maintenance schemes, 300,000 for the LP1515 Ardaghy - Ardara, 340,000 for the R252 Fintown Ballybofey and 400,000 R263 Killybegs Industrial Road will be included under the Specific Improvement Grants.
Pat the Cope also confirmed that the Local Improvement Scheme Allocation for 2010 is 610,000.
Pat the Cope has also welcomed the ministers decision, to give more flexibility to the council, to concentrate on roads damaged by the frost during the harsh weather.
Despite the reduction on the 2009 allocation, these grants represent a significant investment at a time when public finances are under severe pressure.
