Bunbeg N.S. goes to Tender & Construction – Cope

Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP has received confirmation from the Minister for Education, Mr Batt O Keeffe TD that the refurbishment and extension of Scoil Naomh Chonaill, Bunbeg is to go to tender and construction.

In June last year the Minister agreed to the provision of temporary accommodation at the former Ard Scoil Mhuire in Bunbeg while the refurbishment and extension would take place.

The Department had previously agreed to the provision of temporary accommodation at Magheragallon for which Planning Permission had been approved and would have cost up to €400,000. The new arrangement, by using the facilities at Colaiste Cholmcille (Ard Scoil Mhuire) will ensure a substantial reduction in costs together with the value for money now available in the construction sector,” Pat the Cope said.

The project on completion will consist of 5 main stream classrooms, resource room, learning support room, special class room, library, staff room, office and general purpose area.

Pat the Cope expects tenders to be invited in the very near future and he anticipates that work would commence before the summer, thus allowing a return from Ard Scoil Mhuire to the new school by the commencement of the school year in 2011.

Pat the Cope was high in his praise of the Board of Management, teachers, parents and children for their patience and in particular their perseverance.
