Funding for Gweedore Group in Scheme of Community Support for Older
People – Cope


Pobail Ar Aire Ghaoth Dobhair in Donegal are set to receive funding of €5,290 under the latest round of allocations from the Government’s Scheme of Community Support for Older People, according to Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP.

This announcement directly follows from representations made by Pat the Cope to John Curran, Minister of State at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

The scheme of community supports for older people provides funding for
initiatives to improve the security and social support of older
individuals by means of a community based grants scheme. The security
provided includes under this scheme are as follows:

- Window locks, door locks and door chains designed to strengthen points of entry to the dwelling,

- Security lightening and smoke alarms,

- The once off cost of installing socially monitored alarm system, and

- Interior Emergency lighting for qualifying older people living on our
offshore islands

The scheme is directly administered by the local community and voluntary groups and is funded by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

Pat the Cope said that, "This funding is further evidence of the
