MEP Gallagher calls for processed canned fish products to be part of the EU response for the people of Haiti
- Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP will be raising this matter in the European Parliament in Strasbourg this week
Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP, member of the European Parliament's Fisheries Committee said today that "processed canned fish products should be part of the EU aid package for the people of Haiti".
"I know that canned fish products are high in protein and have a long shelf life. This is a specific issue that I will raise with both the European Commissioner for Development Aid and Fisheries as a matter of urgency."
"Haiti is a country in desperate need of help with medicine, food, water and shelter at critical levels. Many people affected by the devastating earthquake are still awaiting assistance that has yet to arrive."
"The EU must be to the forefront of the international response to help the people of Haiti at this time."
"I will also raise this matter in the European Parliament when it convenes in Strasbourg this week".
