MEP Gallagher praises star performer Geoghegan-Quinn

Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP said that "Commissioner-designate Marie Geoghegan-Quinn put in an outstanding performance at her ratification hearing before the European Parliament".

"She answered 64 questions covering a range of very complex political matters. The Commissioner-designate for Research, Innovation and Science operates the FP7 programme, which is worth over 50 billion Euro between 2007 and 2013.

"This programme supports research projects in a range of different economic and social sectors including areas of agriculture, fisheries, food, energy, transport, climate change and the environment. Irish companies are drawing down over one million Euro a week under this fund".

"The European Union is playing a key role to support Irish economic recovery through the portfolio of Research, Innovation and Science, which Marie Geoghegan-Quinn has been allocated."
