This is separate from the large-scale financial backing that is being given to support our banking sector from the European Central Bank and from the European Investment Bank.
Over the past ten years, Irish exports into the other 26 member states of the EU have increased from a value of 44 billion Euro to a figure of 88 billion Euro.
Irish exports into the countries based in Eastern and Central Europe are now valued at 2 billion Euro a year. Increasing export lead growth into the other 26 member states of the EU will be a key way for Ireland to extricate itself from economic recession.

The Lisbon Treaty is about modernising decision making processes within the EU institutions. This will make for more effective and modern law making structures in Europe which will be good news for the future development of the Irish and the European economies.
Now is not the time for Ireland to move away from the EU. Our economic interests are best served by Ireland staying at the very heart of the European Union project. "
