Cope Gallagher to serve as a member of both the fisheries and regional policy committees within the European Parliament -
Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP will serve on two committees within the European Parliament.
Commenting on his membership of the fisheries committee, Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP said that " the key priority for the Irish fishing industry will be the forthcoming review of the Common Fisheries Policy.
In fact, the EU Fisheries Commissioner Jo Borg has publicly said that in the context of this review, no stone will be left unturned.
I will be playing a central role in this review process so that we can build a stronger Irish fishing industry into the future and undo the damage caused to Irish fishing by means of the European Common Fisheries Policy which was agreed in 1983."
As a member of the regional policy committee, Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP said that " I will be supporting measures which will ensure that the EU supports measures which will develop the economy of the constituency of North and West.
The EU is presently providing 400 million Euro to promote cross border economic, social and political development between the period 2007 - 2013.
Irish companies, many from the sme sector are presently drawing down 1 million Euro a week under the 7th EU Research and Technological programme 2007 - 2013
so that we stay at the cutting edge of new technologies and remain competitive in the information age.
I will seek to maximise funding from Europe for the constituency of North and West so as to ensure that we can economically recover in the near future."
